Going Googie in LA
Los Angeles, California

Keep your eyes peeled for examples of Googie architecture as you cruise through Los Angeles. Any building belonging to this movement (unique to the LA area) will look like something out of The Jetsons. The Googie name comes from the West Hollywood coffee shop, designed by James Lautner, named Googie's. It was demolished in 1989 and seems to be the fate for most of these buildings. Norm's Restaurant, another classic Googie building, may be demoed this year if it is not designated as a historic monument.
