Chesapeake Lightship
Baltimore, Maryland

A lightship was a vessel used in waters where building lighthouses was not possible. They were manned crafts and out to sea for extended amounts of time. Eventually technology made the need for them almost completely obsolete. The Chesapeake offers a preserved glimpse into what the lives and trials of lightship sailors were like.
